  • Dr Niraj Parajuli

    Founding President

    Dr Niraj has been involved with rare diseases since 2019. He has working as a national advocate and expert for rare skin diseases. He has been involved with national program as an expert for “leprosy and skin disease”. Currently, he is also involved as a national expert for EB-Clinet, clinical network expert for Epidermolysis Bullosa. He is working closely with Rare Disease International as an Expert for Collaborative Global Network for Rare Disease. He initiated the first-ever national dialogue with multiple stakeholders on rare disease on Rare Disease Day on February 28, 2022 at Leprosy Control and Disability Section, Government of Nepal. He and his team went on an awareness trekking to the highest freshwater lake to promote and create awareness on rare disease during the rare disease awareness week which was as a part of “The Butterfly Challenge” in collaboration with DEBRA-International and national government organizations.

    He has also collaborated with multiple international centers on his personal level for diagnostics and treatment for Nepalese patients with rare disease. He has represented Nepal in multiple rare disease forum. He is also is involved in developing rare disease patient community in the country as well as a demographic details on Nepalese patients with rare skin diseases.

    He has more than 50 publications in both national and internationals journals. He has also represented Nepal in multiple conferences as a speaker. He is reviewer for several national and international journals. Currently, he holds a position of Senior Consultant Dermatologist and Assistant Professor at National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal. He is also serving as the General Secretary of the Society of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists of Nepal (SODVELON). His interest are blistering diseases, neglected tropical diseases and artificial intelligence in dermatology. He loves trekking, travelling and listening to music.
  • Dr Smita Joshi

    Vice-President

    Dr. Joshi received her undergraduate degree from Kathmandu Medical College, Kathmandu University. She completed her post-graduation in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India.

    She thoroughly developed her clinical acumen, teaching and research skills as a faculty at the Department of Dermatology, Nepal Medical College over a span of seven years. She has had opportunity to observe at hospitals in Canada, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

    She is a recipient of DEBRA International grant for training in epidermolysis bullosa at Great Ormond Street Hospital, U.K. She had completed a one-year clinical fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), University of Toronto, Canada. Dr. Joshi is currently a full-time consultant at DI Skin Hospital and Referral Center, Golfutar, Kathmandu.
  • Dr Rushma Shrestha

    General Secretary

    Dr Shrestha is a senior dermatologist working at National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital, Kathmandu since 2008. Her interests are community dermatology and public health intervention in dermatology. She has been an active team member of

    Dermatology Care in Rural Nepal since 2010 which focuses on skin diseases in rural Nepal. She has published numerous papers in both national and international journals. She has also presented in multiple national and international conferences. She has been invited as chairperson in various national and international conferences. She hold the position of Professor since 2020. Her hobbies include travelling, hiking and sports.
  • Dr. Suwash Baral

    Consultant Dermatologist

    Dr Baral is a consultant dermatologist and dermatopathologist working at Anandaban hospital, The Leprosy mission Nepal since 2014. He is graduated from Maharajgunj Medical Campus Institute of medicine and he did his fellowship in dermatopathology from Wake Forest University, USA.

    He is highly interested in leprosy and other skin NTDs. He has been an active team member of Dermatology care in Rural Nepal. He has presented in multiple national and international conferences and has published different papers in national and international journals. His hobbies include travelling and reading.
  • Dr. Rabindra Baskota

    Senior Consultant Dermatologist

    Dr. Rabindra Baskota is a Senior Consultant Dermatologist at Ministry of Health and Population, Nepal He is a Public health specialist with over 15 years of work experience as clinician, consultant, program manager, researcher and trainer in Nepal.

    Dr Rabindra Baskota serves as senior consultant dermatologist for Ministry of Health and Population of Nepal. He was the chief of the Leprosy Control and Disability Management Section from 2017 to 2022. In this role, he has led the development of national policies, strategies, and guidelines along with the implementation of leprosy programs and skin disease campaigns at the national and the sub-national level. His responsibilities also include patient care to persons with leprosy and skin NTDs, including the rare skin conditions.

    Dr Baskota joined the Leadership Team of Global Partnership for Zero Leprosy in March 2022. In GPZL, he contributed to the development of the Zero Leprosy Toolkit as a chair of the SDR-PEP sub-group. In addition, he coordinated the Nepal’s National Leprosy Program review alongside GPZL, WHO, ILEP, and organizations of persons affected by leprosy in 2019. He is also in the Technical Advisory Group of the WHO Global Leprosy Program since September 2022.
  • Dr. Prajwal Pudasaini

    Dermatologist

    Dr. Prajwal Pudasaini is a young and energetic dermatologist and aesthetic surgeon. He currently works as a Dermatology registrar at Civil Service Hospital. Even at an young age, he has established himself as a successful researcher and has represented Nepal in multiple international platforms. He has been a brilliant speaker in the media for creating awareness in skin diseases and issues pertaining to skin health. He has also written multiple columns for national daily newspapers. He is invited frequently by the national media for interview on skin health. He has multiple publications in national and international journals. He also serves as an Associate Editor for Clinical Case Reports Journal.

    His interest include leprosy, pigmentary disorders and impact of skin disease on health aspects.
